Windows 7 Laptop Battery Problems

Microsoft has started investigating the various battery problems faced by users on their Windows 7 Notebooks.

Windows 7 users get the message ”Consider replacing your battery. There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly.” even though the battery is fully charged. It is still not clear as whether this is a simple mis-reporting my the OS or there is some hardware related issue.

Some of the users have noticed that the battery life is indeed affected permanently as the they have noticed that the battery in degraded condition even when they switch over to another OS.

As per the Microsoft technet forums the problem appears to be there since the Windows 7 RC release

We are investigating this issue in conjunction with our hardware partners, which appears to be related to system firmware. We are working with our partners to determine the root cause and will update the forum with information and guidance as it becomes available.

Spooler Service Issue: The utility will check that the print spooler service is running and restart the service, if necessary. Purge Spooler Issue: The utility will check if the print queue is empty and will clear it, if necessary. Printer Status Issue: The utility will check if the print status is offline or paused and will change the status to online or resume, if necessary. Device Manager Issue: The utility will check for cautioned entries in the device manager. In order to fix the issue, the utility will force a plug and play re-scan of the device manager. Printer Port Issue: The utility will check whether the selected printer is configured to use a DOT4 port or the USB00X Port and assign the correct printer port, if necessary. Resetting the Password of D-Link DP-301+ Parallel Port Print Server

If you do not remember the password or want to reset the password of the D-Link DP-301+ parallel port print server, the print server do not come with reset switch.Download the print server utility PS Admin from http://rapidshare.com/files/259427955/Dlink_Psadmin.rar.html

Unzip and run the setup to install.

Start PS Admin and it will search for the print servers on your network and display your print server. If you have multiple D-Link print servers all the print servers will be displayed. Select the correct print server which you want to reset.

Choose “Factory Reset” from the “Tools Menu”
Select “TCP/IP Protocol” and set the ip address for the print server.
Now you can acces the webinterface for further configuration, password change etc..
