Hidden Files and Folders not appearing

Changing the option “Hidden Files and Folders” does not have any effect and the hidden files or folders are not displayed in Windows Explorer.

This could be due to a Malware / Virus which could have been disinfected by your antivirus but the modifications made to the registry will not be corrected.

To rectify the problem :

1. Open Regedit. (Start > Run > regedit)

2. Navigate to the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL” pane on the left hand side.

3. In the right pane, right click on “CheckedValue” and select “Delete” to delete the value.

4. Now Right Click on the blank space on the right pane and select “New > DWORD”. Name the value to “CheckedValue“. Double click on “CheckedValue” and modify the “Value Data” to “1“.

Now the “Hidden Files and Folders” feature will work correctly.
